Attracting the best candidates
These useful tips will hopefully help your organisation create the perfect environment, to enable you to get the best candidates and importantly to keep them…
Attracting the best candidates
Create a culture….
It is important to look at your competitors and recognise what sets you apart from yo ur competition. Once you have established what your USPs are, then you should make sure that people know about them. Build the company culture around these elements that set you apart and shout it from the roof tops!
Social media is an effective way of showing what a great working environment you provide and all external communication, should emphasise this brand message and promote your company’s values
Encourage ambition…
In order to get the best candidates, you will need to convince them that your organisation is the best place for them to achieve their ambitions. High flying recruits will always want to further their career, so by embracing this and creating a structure that allows progression and encourages personal development, you will be able to attract these ambitious applicants.
Create a competitive rewards package….
Obviously companies that are able to pay high salaries will give themselves a competitive advantage, when it comes to taking on the top applicants. However, flexible or “fuzzy” benefits can also attract candidates as quite often people want to a job which fits in with their lifestyle rather than simply having financial rewards. For example for workers with children, flexible working hours or longer holidays can be invaluable when it comes to organising childcare. Even things such as giving employees their birthday off, or allowing duvet days, can make the difference in attracting the best.
Let your employees act as brand ambassadors…
If your employees enjoy working at your company, then they’ll recommend you to others. Word of mouth is still an extremely effective way of securing an excellent reputation. If somebody is thinking of joining your organisation, then they will often speak to friends or acquaintances who have had dealings with your company or have known somebody who has worked for you. By ensuring that your employees are fully engaged and happy, they will naturally promote your company and act as brand ambassadors.
There will be times when people for whatever reason don’t work out and will end up leaving your company. When this happens, it is important to deal with it in a professional and amicable manner, as obviously bad reputations can spread by word of mouth too!
